Keeping Sane in Lockdown!

With covid lockdowns, it is what it is folks; we can’t change it!

I find it helpful to focus on what I can do as opposed to what I can’t.  Of course I’m annoyed we’re in lockdown, but it’s also an opportunity to get things done I wouldn’t typically prioritise.  I’m already thinking about the spring cleaning I can do around the house!

Three lockdown sanity tips:

a) Stick to a routine - a reminder to try and keep to the usual flow of what you usually do during the week. For example, get up at the same time, eat breakfast at the same time etc. However, if you have people in the house that aren’t usually there during the week, like teenagers, create a new routine for yourself and others that ensure that it’s not just studying and work but also play.

b) Non – routine - here’s a thought do the opposite! For some, non-routine might be the best way to be in lockdown. As this isn’t a normal situation, do things you typically can’t do. For example, go for a walk in the morning if usually you don’t have time or sit down for a cuppa at morning tea and watch a movie.  Try some non-routine to enjoy the time away from the usual.

c) A feel-good achievement - choose one thing each day that you would like to get done.  It might be cleaning out the junk drawers, rehanging a painting or learning a card game with the kids; whatever it is, find one thing each day that will make you feel good.

And remember - focus on what needs to happen right now rather than what should have happened or what might happen.

Keep safe,

Allison
