Are you feeling stuck in your job?

Do you lack the confidence to change jobs?
Fearful of changing jobs right now?

Feeling stuck in a job is common.  And we’ve all had an added layer the last 18 months with covid restrictions around the world.  This has created hesitancy to change or make plans in many areas of our lives as we don’t know when the next wave of covid and the restrictions that go with it could occur. So here are 4 steps to help you move forward:

  1. Firstly, do you genuinely believe you can get another job? Or is your mind telling you otherwise, and there’s a lot of negative mind talk. For instance, “I’m not good enough” or “there just aren’t any jobs out there.”

Write down any negative thoughts and begin to challenge them as well as turn them around. For example, “yes, I can get another job”; and “well, unless I try, I don’t know if there are jobs or not.” Then, ask a friend to go over the negative thoughts with you to check are these facts or if your mind is being unhelpful.

  2. Take a large piece of paper and draw a line down the page, then write beside the line all the steps that need to occur to change jobs.  Starting with a good CV, knowing what job you want, where to look, etc.  If you’re struggling, google ‘what do I need to do to change jobs.’

  3. Now review this list and highlight the areas that you don’t feel confident.  Write beside each what you could do in each of these areas to get support?  If your cv needs some work, consider who could do that for you.  There is loads of information online or ask a friend or family member for help.

  4. Just one step.  Now you’ve got all this information; it’s time to take action.  But break it all down.  Choose one thing to start, it could be just finding the old cv, and that’s week one.  Week two could be asking a friend to help you on this journey and so on.  If you get overwhelmed, step right back and do just one thing.

If you need some assistance with this pick up the phone or email me.

Warmly

Allison
